Aerial Landscape - Through the invention of flight we have been able to view the earth from above.
With the advent of photography, record it! The development of Aerial Photography began in the 1850's
when balloons with cameras attached were sent aloft. Today we have satellites taking pictures of the earth,
people are flying more and have become use to the aerial landscape view. It was because of these modern technologies
I was able to develop Aerial Landscape Painting. This new way of looking at landscape seemed to me a logical progression
from the traditional perspective of landscape we have been accustomed to. Around 1980 I was flying with my sister who had
just received her pilot’s license and started taking photographs of the surrounding Los Angeles area. I started the
Aerial Series the same year using these photos as a reference for the paintings. These early paintings were at first realistic then
latter developed to a more expressionistic and abstracted style. As these images evolved. I felt like the earth was
being torn, gouged and tortured and tried to reflect this feeling in the paintings. I painted Aerials for
about 6 years and completed over one hundred and twenty acrylic on canvas pieces and hundreds of works on paper.
