_________________________________________________________________________

I began painting at the age of ten. My early training was heavily influenced by the classics.
Much of my images were based on the figure and I had extensive training in anatomy and life
drawing. In my early twenties I began to paint my first “series” based on a shipwreck of the
Greek Freighter called the “Dominator”,  located off the Palos Verdes coast in Southern California.
These paintings were hard edged, color studies of close cropped mechanical structure that had a
very organic feel because of the way the steel was torn and rusted.  In my mid twenties I began
exploring the use of common images (ocean, portraits, still life's, etc.) to see if I could do something
unique and exciting with them. I also began exploring what was referred to at that time a
"Hyper-Realist" style. The earliest of these images were "Ocean" paintings, which began
in a more "Expressionist" mode then developed to a more "Realist" style. These are fairly large
paintings (60"x72"), as much of my work tended to be at that time.
